Descrição
This dataset provides information about 2287 preserved specimens from 509 species and subspecies and 61 families of vascular plants. The specimens were collected in the undergraduate thesis project of Mayo (1978), which assessed the vascular plants of the city of Pamplona and surroundings (Navarra, northern Spain).
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto
The vascular flora of the city of Pamplona (northern Spain) and surroundings was assessed. An inventory was conducted based on fieldwork and taxa were identified.
Título | Undergraduate thesis project R.M. Mayo: “Flora vascular de Pamplona y sus alrededores”. |
---|---|
Financiamento | Digitization and georeferencing of the herbarium specimens have been supported through the project: “Informatización y adecuación a la red GBIF de colecciones de plantas vasculares depositadas en el herbario de la Universidad de Navarra-PAMP. Fase II”. Reference: CGL2011-15056-E. Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad. Gobierno de España. Principal investigator: Ricardo Ibáñez. |
Descrição da Área de Estudo | The city is in the middle of Navarra (northern Spain), at 450 m.a.s.l., and is surrounded by a mountain belt with a height of about 1000 m.a.s.l. The area studied is close to the boundary between the Mediterranean and Eurosiberian biogeographical regions. The climate of Pamplona is oceanic with Mediterranean influences of some drier months in summer. |

Descrição dos passos do método:
- Plant collection. Plant vouchers were selected and collected in the field.
- Identification to species or subspecies level. Identification was performed between 1974 and 1978 mainly by R.M. Mayo and M.L. López using Flora europaea (Tutin et al. 1964-1976) and Flore de la France (Coste 1900-1906).
- Plant conservation. Specimens were dried and pressed for conservation using standard protocols. Vouchers were deposited in the herbarium of the University of Navarra.
- Numbering and digitization of vouchers. From 2012 to date, each specimen was labelled, with a unique collection number, and digitized, using HERBAR software (v3.7.1 Pando et al. 1994-2010).
- Revision of species identification. Original identification of some herbarium specimens was revised. Between June 2013 and January 2018, the identification of 49 specimens was corrected and refined in 54, either by providing the specific or the subspecific epithet.
- Nomenclature was updated using Flora iberica (Castroviejo 1986-2015).
- Names of municipalities, localities and place names were updated according to Toponimia Oficial de Navarra (http://toponimianavarra.tracasa.es/).
- Georeferencing. Localities were georeferenced using geographic or UTM or coordinates. Datum and uncertainty were also assigned.
- Internet exportation. Data were exported from the HERBAR database under a Darwin Core format (Wieczorek et al. 2012).
- Data checking and validation. Coordinates, characters and format of dates were checked for possible mistakes using Darwin test software (v3.3, Ortega-Maqueda & Pando 2008). This software allowed validating data in the Darwin Core format.
- Metadata were documented and the dataset was published in the GBIF data portal using the Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT v2.3.5) of GBIF.es (http://ipt.gbif.es/).

Metadados Adicionais
The origin of the PAMP Herbarium dates back to the arrival at the University of Navarra by Professor T.M. Losa España in 1964. One year later M.L. López Fernández began her doctoral thesis, maintaining her contributions to the herbarium uninterruptedly for several decades. Most of the material deposited in the herbarium comes from collections made by researchers from the Department of Environmental Biology (formerly Department of Botany) of the University of Navarra, as a result of theses and dissertations generally carried out in the territory of the Autonomous Community of Navarra (Spain). The herbarium store c. 100 000 sheets with dried specimens. The digitisation of the specimens has been done through the HERBAR v3.7.1 software (Pando et al., 1994-2010) and was supported by the Spanish Government (CGL2007-30978-E, CGL2009-08507-E and CGL2011-15056-E).
