Description

This dataset provides a list of vascular plant species that are endemic to Andalusia. It includes a total of 364 species (or 394 taxa if infra-specific ranks are considered), distributed across 160 genera belonging to 44 families. Those species that, although they have a significant presence in Andalusia, extend beyond its borders, have been excluded. This checklist is based on the book by Devesa & Martínez-Sagarra (2023), Plantas vasculares endémicas de Andalucía. It represents, therefore, an approximation that has required a prior taxonomic assessment of the taxa described for this territory until the date of the publication of the book.

Data Records

The data in this checklist resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 395 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data

The SUMHAL project aims to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the Western Mediterranean hotspot through the use of high-tech infrastructure and collaboration between researchers and the general public. The aim of WP9 is to produce useful information to address the conservation of plant diversity in the Baetic Mountains, with three main focuses: 1) evolution of plant diversity in the region (LWE2103033), 2) current situation of plant diversity in the region (LWE2103034), and 3) prospective approach (LWE2103035). The checklist presented satisfies objective 3, in section 9.3.1 (Status of endemic species), which in turn consists of three tasks: 1) List of Andalusian endemisms, Information for each taxon endemic, and 3) Book on Andalusian endemisms.

Title Sustainability for Mediterranean Hotspots in Andalusia integrating LifeWatch ERIC (SUMHAL). Work package 9 (WP9): Conservation of plant diversity in the Betic mountain ranges
Identifier LIFEWATCH-2019-09-CSIC-4, POPE 2014-2020
Funding This study was funded by MICINN through European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
Study Area Description The study was conducted in the autonomous community of Andalusia (Spain), covering both the Betic mountain ranges (a fundamental focus of the SUMHAL Project) and Sierra Morena, as well as the Guadalquivir Depression.
Design Description Review of bibliographic information and material conserved in herbaria with the aim of: a) preparing a list of endemic vascular plants of Andalusia, b) providing information on these endemic taxa, and c) compiling this information in a book. This information was reviewed, compiled, and taxonomically assessed between 2021 and 2023 (see Temporal coverage section). Therefore, taxa described after the publication date of the book by Martínez-Sagarra & Devesa (2023) have not been included in this checklist.
