Descripción
La Chanta was a limestone quarry currently owned by Holcim Spain, located in Alcarria de Alcalá, in the municipality of Corpa. It is the result of Holcim's biodiversity strategy, a corporation that has opted for a new model of rehabilitation of mining spaces, demonstrating that it is possible to achieve a positive net balance in biodiversity after its restoration. Following the execution of restoration activities in 2020, in March 2021 a stewardship agreement for five years and extendable in usufruct was signed between Holcim Spain and Brinzal. Since then, Brinzal has been in charge of carrying out standardized and regularly maintained monitoring over time of an important variety of faunal and flora groups to objectively assess their evolution.
Registros

La Chanta is an old limestone quarry currently owned by Holcim Spain, located in Alcarria de Alcalá, in the municipality of Corpa (Madrid, Spain). After the cessation of mining activity, the original Restoration Project was modified for an innovative one that would accommodate the conservation and enhancement of the new habitats that had been generated, such as wetlands, rocky outcrops of different natures, grasslands, incipient shrub formations, etc and that they were being colonized by species with a certain level of vulnerability and ecological importance. In March 2021, a stewardship agreement was signed between Holcim Spain and Brinzal. Since then, this NGO has been in charge of, among other things, managing the use of the territory and the different infrastructures, as well as monitoring and promoting biodiversity.
