Description

This collection is a catalogue of the otolith part of the CBMR (ICM-CSIC) and associated to the data base AFORO. The database is regularly updated and at present (2023) it contains a total of 7905 high resolution images corresponding to 2716 species from 274 families at the CBMR of the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC) from worldwide, especially in Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Antarctic and Namibian waters. Also, AFORO shows images from diverse atlases of otoliths (Rivaton & Bourret 1999; Leopold, van Damme, Philippart & Winter 2001; Campana 2004; Tuset, Lombarte & Assis 2008; Lin & Chang 201; Sadighzadeh, Tuset, Dadpour, Otero-Ferrer, Lombarte 2012; Volpedo, Thompson & Avigliano 2017). AFORO website (http://aforo.cmima.csic.es/) offers an online open catalogue of otolith images and its associated shape analysis through pattern recognition techniques applying wavelet analysis (WT), elliptic Fourier analysis (EFA) and classical morphometries, including relationship with fish length. The website also includes an Automatic Taxon Identification that allows to search and identify directly using query images of otoliths. The data base also is associated with Fishbase and Osteobase datbases. More information about the catalogue is here: https://scientiamarina.revistas.csic.es/index.php/scientiamarina/article/view/192

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 9,394 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.
