Description
The Museo de Ciencias Naturales de Álava has a Palaeontology collection of approximately 17 000 fossils from various important fossil sites, primarily in the Basque-Cantabrian region (northern Spain). The following materials are represented in the collection: Early Cretaceous amber biota from Moraza and Peñacerrada (Treviño and Álava), the Late Cretaceous terrestrial and marine vertebrates from Laño y Albaina (Treviño), marine invertebrates and vertebrates from the Late Cretaceous of Álava, vertebrates from the Eocene lacustrine deposit of Zambrana (Álava) and Miocene plant and arthropod fossils from Izarra (Álava). The collection, which is fully curated and computer catalogued, is divided into the following four subcollections: fossil invertebrates (comprise 53 %), vertebrates (27 %), bioinclusions in amber (18.5 %) and fossil plants (1.5 %). The museum notably has many unique fossil specimens, including more than 300 primary types. The collection is curated by geologists Jose Carmelo Corral and Rafael López Del Valle.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 11,044 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
