Description

El seguimiento sistemático de las poblaciones de aves acuáticas en humedales dio comienzo por iniciativa de ornitólogos en los años 70 del siglo XX. Durante años estos censos fueron apoyados por las Diputaciones Forales y a partir de 2004 el Gobierno Vasco se hace cargo de su organización y financiación. El programa establece realizar anualmente los censos de las aves invernantes en enero y los de nidificantes en los meses de mayo a julio, en una serie de localidades prefijadas.
