Описание

Since the Industrial Revolution, humans have affected and destroyed river ecosystems with our activities. The knowledge of the characteristics of non-disturbed rivers is important to assess the biological quality and impacts caused by human activities in rivers. This project aims to assess the ecosystem quality of the Erro River, a well conserved Pyrenean river. The Erro river ecological quality (physicochemical parametres, macroinvertebrate biotic index and fish community) was studied since 2001 to 2003 and in 2005. Ocurrence data of fish was collected to determine the fish community of the river (Leunda, 2011).

Географический охват

All specimens were collected in the Erro River (Ebro basin, Spain).

Ограничивающие координаты Юг Запад [42,76, -1,51], Север Восток [42,85, -1,35]

Таксономический охват

All specimens were identified to the species level using the Guide to Freshwater Fish of Britain and Europe (Maitland P. S. & Linsell K., 1977). Eight species were recorded with 5 belonging to the Cyprinidae family (Barbus haasi, Gobio lozanoi, Luciobarbus graellsii, Parachondrostoma miegii and Phoxinus bigerri). The rest of the collected species belong to the families Salmonidae (Salmo trutta), Nemacheilidae (Barbatula quignardi) and Cobitidae (Cobitis calderoni). In number of individuals, the most abundant family is Cyprinidae as well, with the 87% of the captures. Moreover, six species recorded in this dataset are endemic from the Iberian Peninsula.

Species Cobitis calderoni (Northern Iberian spined-loach), Barbus haasi (Iberian redfin barbel), Gobio lozanoi (Pyrenean gudgeon), Luciobarbus graellsii (Ebro barbel), Parachondrostoma miegii (Ebro nase), Phoxinus bigerri (Pyrenean minnow), Barbatula quignardi (Pyrenean stone loach), Salmo trutta (Brown trout)

Данные проекта

Human activities have affected, changed and degraded river ecosystems. This project studied the most important anthropogenic impacts in the rivers and their consequences. At the same time, a well-conserved river was studied to understand its characteristics and ecologic function. This knowledge is essential for a good management, quality evaluation and biodiversity conservation.

Финансирование The collection of this data has been supported through the project: - "Actuaciones humanas en ríos de Navarra. Su incidencia en la conservación de la biodiversidad". Contrato-Programa C.S.I.C. – Gobierno de Navarra, bajo acuerdo Marco C.S.I.C. – UN, 20th of November, 1995. (2000-2003). Director: Dr. Mª Carmen Escala.
Описание района исследования The Erro River is a pre-pyrenean, 48.5 km long tributary of the Irati River (Ebro basin, Northern Spain). It drains an area of approximately 220 km2. It is influenced by two climes: subatlantic, with a rainfall of 1800 mm annualy, and submediterranean, drier. Vegetation varies with the clime and the land use: from beech and oak to poplar and agricultural land.

Методы сбора

The main sampling method was electric fishing, using a back-pack electrofishing unit (ACUITEC, 300-600 V, 0.2-2 A). The method used was three-run depletion between two stop-nets. The captured individuals were sedated with 2-phenoxyethanol, identified, counted and measured (total length in mm). Then, fishes were returned to the river. Species identification was performed by P. Leunda and R. Miranda.

Охват исследования The specimens were captured in 17 localities dispersed through the Erro River in the years 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005.
Контроль качества Species identification was performed by R. Miranda and P. Leunda using suitable literature (Maitland & Linsell 1977) and scientific names were validated using the W. N. Eschmeyer’s Catalog of Fishes (Eschmeyer 2014). Specimens were returned to the river or deposited in the Zoological Museum of the University of Navarra. Each specimen was labelled with a unique collection number. Darwin test software (v3.3 Ortega-Maqueda and Pando 2008) was used to check out possible mistakes in the coordinates, characters and the format of dates.

Описание этапа методики:

  1. Specimens were sampled following the procedure described in the Sampling description section. The individuales were identified, measured and. Field data was revised, digitalised and incorporated to the MZNA database (Zootron v4.5, Ariño 1991). The dataset was exported to DarwinCore v1.4 format and revised to correct errors to adequate it to DarwinCore standars. Metadata information was added and the Darwin Core Archive was incorporated to the Spanish GBIF IPT.

Дополнительные метаданные

The Museum of Zoology (MZNA) was founded in 1980 as a repository of zoological materials originating from research and instructional activities of the department of Environmental Biology (proviously known as the department of Zoology and Ecology) of the University of Navarra. Nowadays MZNA store more than two millions specimens in its climate-controlled facilities. The Museum is a Data Provider for the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) and is an Affiliate to the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN). The Museum is also in charge of the curation and management of the Natural History Collections of the School of Science of the University of Navarra (Spain). MZNA attends to reserchers around the world, make loans and accepts deposits.

Цель The aim of the present data set is to provide all information of the records of freshwater fishes gathered in a research project about the human impacts in the Erro river, Navarra, Spain.
Описание частоты обновления ресурса Dataset is closed. The regular maintenance of the preserved material could imply modification of some metadata related with curatorial units. New versions of the dataset will be published when required.
