Description

[Castellano] La Colección Osteológica de Aves comprende 2330 registros y es un subconjunto de la Colección de Vertebrados del IMEDEA (IMEDEA-VERT). El Dr. Josep Antoni Alcover fue quien impulsó su creación con la voluntad de obtener una colección osteológica de aves actuales de referencia. Los especímenes registrados son esqueletos completos o parciales, todos conservados en seco que provienen de diferentes fuentes: recolecciones, donaciones e intercambios. Muchos de los ejemplares han sido preparados en el IMEDEA por parte del equipo del Dr. Josep Antoni Alcover. Una gran parte de los registros contiene información geográfica que ha permitido georreferenciarlos a nivel de localidad, municipio, región o estado, según la información encontrada en las etiquetas. Fundamentalmente, la mayoría de los especímenes provienen de España, y en particular, de las Islas Baleares. Aun así, hay ejemplares que provienen de otros 35 estados, entre los cuales destacamos, por la abundancia de registros, Suecia y Portugal. La colección osteológica de Aves, que está actualmente en crecimiento, tiene un gran interés científico por el número y diversidad de especies representadas (415), las cuales pertenecen a 83 famílias diferentes.[English] The Osteological Bird Collection comprises 2330 records and is a subset of the IMEDEA Vertebrate Collection (IMEDEA-VERT). Dr. Josep Antoni Alcover was the one who promoted his creation with the aim of obtaining an osteological collection of current reference birds. The recorded specimens are complete or partial skeletons, all preserved in dry form that come from different sources: collections, donations and exchanges. Many of the specimens have been prepared at IMEDEA by the team of Dr. Josep Antoni Alcover. A large part of the records contains geographic information that has allowed georeferencing at the level of locality, municipality, region or state, according to the information found on the labels. Fundamentally, most of the specimens come from Spain, and in particular from the Balearic Islands. Even so, there are specimens that come from other 36 states, of which we highlight those of Sweden and Portugal. The Bird osteological collection, currently growing, has a high scientific interest due to the number and diversity of represented species (415), belonging to 83 different families.

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,330 records.

Geographic Coverage

Los especímenes recolectados en las Islas Baleares representan más del 50% del total. En consecuencia, el 75% de los ejemplares han sido recolectados en España. Aun así, el 21% provienen de 36 estados diferentes, de los cuales destacamos por la abundancia de los registros, Suecia y de Portugal.

El 95% de los especímenes están identificados a nivel de especie, mientras que un 3,8% están identificados a nivel de subespecie y menos del 1% a nivel de género.

Recolección de cadáveres en carreteras y centros de recuperación de fauna silvestre, intercambios científicos con museos, aceptación de donaciones, etc.

Study Extent Básicamente, paleártico occidental, incluyendo el Mediterráneo y la Macaronesia.

Method step description:

  1. Tras la recolección se ha procedido a la preparación de los esqueletos, en general por maceración o ebullición. Se conservan los esqueletos desarticulados en recipientes adecuados para su correcto manejo. Además de la colección general aquí presentada se ha creado una colección sinóptica de los diferentes elementos esqueléticos, con objeto de agilizar su uso en las identificaciones de fósiles.
