Descrição
IAS Tracker is a project to get locations of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) from common citizens. This crowdsourced project consist in the Geoportal IASTracker (http://iastracker.ic5team.org/) (to manage, view and control user observations) and a mobile App to submit the IAS observations. IASTracker App takes advantage of Mobile high-end technology to provide quality data on IAS sightings. IASTracker aims to achieve any type of public, expert or not, with the common goal of helping to reduce the negative impacts of invasive species on biodiversity, health and economy of the affected areas.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Métodos de Amostragem
IASTracker volunteers have to download IASTracker App (Android and IOS available) to submit invasive alien species locations. IASTracker App has datasheet of some species and the user needs to know which specie wants to locate. Neither the app is an identifier App (sending a image it return the name of the specie) nor does it accept different species from the App list. However, this list can grow in so far as IASTracker project grows.
Área de Estudo | As a crowd-souce project, AS IASTracker sampling area depends on where users decide to participate. More crowded areas are expected to get more information. Also it is expected to have more data collected on weekends and holidays. |
---|---|
Controle de Qualidade | All observations are checked and they are validated or discarded by a panel of experts. This is the reason why adding new species is not an automatic process. Each new IASTracker specie requires at least one expert to validate its observations. |
Descrição dos passos do método:
- IASTracker App Installation First step is the App installation on a mobile phone. This resource is available from the IOS and Android stores. User registration on the App This step is not necessary but helps validators to known the background of the IAS Observers.
- IASTracker App users/IASTracker volunteers submit IAS observations. They can submit when (the app run online and offline) and where they are without limitation. The observations can include: - 5 pictures (selected from the gallery or taken from the App) - Some notes - Quantity data (one, few or several) Submitted observations are created as observations pending of validation.
- IASTracker observation validation Experts check from time to time if there are observations pending of validation. This validation process is expected to not delay more than a week. After the validation process, observation status can change to: - Validated. Validator can add comments. - Discarded. Validator has to comment why the observation is discarded. - Deleted. In case the observation is inappropriate.
