説明

The LIFE Fluvial project “Improvement and sustainable management of river corridors of the Iberian Atlantic Region” (LIFE 16 / NAT / ES000771) was a project funded by the LIFE program 2014-2020, within the 2016 call “Nature and Biodiversity”. The overall objective was the improvement of the conservation status of Atlantic river corridors in the Natura 2000 network. For this purpose, the project develops a transnational strategy for the sustainable management of river corridor habitats in several Atlantic river basins of the Iberian Peninsula. In this area, different threat factors such as invasive alien species, intensification of uses or plant health problems, generated the deterioration and fragmentation of the habitats of the river corridors. During the preparation actions, information was acquired about the threats present in the action areas. This dataset include all the geolocations of the alien plants found in the action sites of the LIFE Fluvial project in the Eo river (Spain).

プロジェクトデータ

Improvement and sustainable management of river corridors of the Iberian Atlantic Region. The rivers of the Atlantic Iberia, beyond its extraordinary natural value and its social function, constitute a network of biological corridors that plays a decisive role in the conservation of many terrestrial ecosystems. Its complex dynamics and the extraordinary human pressure to which they are subjected, advises the realization of an interdisciplinary analysis that allows to understand, in its true dimension, the problems that afflict them and adequately guide actions to improve and restore their main functions. Designing restoration plans in this sense, which constitute a procedure of good practices in the matter of restoration of river corridors, and improve the social understanding of this work, are the strategic ideas that sustain this project. The overall objective is the improvement of the conservation status of Atlantic river corridors in the Natura 2000 network. For this purpose, the project develops a transnational strategy for the sustainable management of river corridor habitats in several Atlantic river basins of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). In this area, different threat factors such as invasive alien species, intensification of uses or plant health problems, generate the deterioration and fragmentation of the habitats of the river corridors.

ファンデイング The LIFE Fluvial project “Improvement and sustainable management of river corridors of the Iberian Atlantic Region” (LIFE 16 / NAT / ES000771) is a project funded by the LIFE program 2014-2020, within the 2016 call “Nature and Biodiversity”. The EU contribution to this project is 2,272,474 € (the total amount of the project is 3,032,223 € ) and will be implemented over 4 years, from September 2017 to August 2021. The beneficiary entity is the University of Oviedo (INDUROT) and the partners: University of Santiago de Compostela (IBADER), University of Lisbon (Higher Institute of Agronomy), Ribadeo City Council, InterEo, TRAGSA, Mariñas-Betanzos Rural Disenvironment Association and EMALCSA.
Study Area Description The project was carrying out a series of initiatives in several Atlantic river basins in the north-west of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal).
研究の意図、目的、背景など(デザイン) To achieve this objective, the project proposes the development of a transnational model of sustainable management for river corridors to improve their conservation status, by restoring the composition, structure and functionality of their habitat types, improving connectivity and reducing their fragmentation. At the same time, the project intends to contribute to knowledge of the river corridors, on the part of society, and the problems which affect them, by presenting this information to public opinion-makers, riverside populations, different civic organisations and the managers of the territory. The main tenets of this strategy are the following: Control of alien and invasive flora Improvement of the phytosanitary status of the river corridors, through the partial removal of trees infected with Phythophthora. Dissemination and awareness-raising of the natural value, the socio-economic benefits and ecosystem services provided by river corridors Improvement of the education and technical training of people involved in the management and conservation of the river corridors Based on the above, the project is structured around the following action: Preparatory action. Preliminary assessment of the areas for action, common indicators for monitoring, technical planning of action, expropriation plan. Land acquisition. Acquisition, through expropriation, of land adjacent to the fluvial-estuarine riverbank in the municipality of Ribadeo (Galicia), in order to naturalise these lands through the destruction of eucalyptus plantations and the restoration of natural habitats. Conservation action. 8 conservation initiatives have been defined in 9 Natura 2000 sites in Spain and Portugal, distributed along the upper, middle and lower reaches of five river basins, to improve the state of conservation of river corridor habitats, mainly of type 91E0*. The tasks included in these initiatives are: control of invasive species, removal of dead alders, restoration of natural vegetation cover. Monitoring action. Follow-up action to measure the impact of the project on the target habitats, to assess the socio-economic impact of the project, to assess the impact of the project on ecosystem functions, as well as to analyse the progress of the project. Public awareness-raising and dissemination of results. This action includes a Communications Plan; design, creation and implementation of informative, didactic and awareness-raising materials and equipment; design and implementation of an awareness-raising and dissemination programme; publication of an informative electronic newsletter; launch of a website and the establishment of relations with other projects of a similar nature. Project management. Action related to the process of managing and coordinating the project.

収集方法

The sampling has been carried out with the objective of locating the invasion points of all the invasive plants present in the action sections of the project. Because the nature of the species is highly variable, each point can represent either a single plant or many more if they are of smaller dimensions. Each point always represents populations spatially differentiated.

Study Extent Eo river banks and lagoons

Method step description:

  1. The sampling method is the localization by gps of the invasion areas of the allochthonous plants found in the action areas of the LIFE Fluvial project.
