<para>ChromoDB is a curated database of chromosome counts for vascular plants compiled from published scientific literature. The dataset provides taxon names, accepted names when available, chromosome numbers expressed as n and/or 2n, geographic origin of the studied material when reported, bibliographic sources, and links to the corresponding ChromoDB records. This first GBIF release includes a selected subset of non-problematic records that have undergone taxonomic and bibliographic review. Additional information, updates, and extended contextual data are maintained in the ChromoDB web portal.</para>

<introduction><para>Chromosome numbers are fundamental data for plant cytogenetics, taxonomy, systematics, evolution, biodiversity research, and conservation biology. ChromoDB compiles chromosome counts from published scientific literature and links them to taxonomic, geographic, and bibliographic information. This first GBIF release focuses on records considered suitable for publication after taxonomic and bibliographic review.</para></introduction>
<gettingStarted><para>Each record corresponds to a chromosome-count report extracted from the scientific literature and associated with a plant taxon, the reported geographic origin of the studied material when available, chromosome numbers expressed as n and/or 2n, and the bibliographic source. Users requiring additional context, later corrections, or extended fields should consult the corresponding record in the ChromoDB web portal.</para></gettingStarted>
