The BIO herbarium belongs to the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and it is located in the Campus of Leioa (Bizkaia, Spain). It was created in 1981 and it is managed by the Department of Plant Biology and Ecology (Botany section). The BIO herbarium houses two main groups of organisms, namely vascular plants (BIO) and fungi (BIO-Fungi). This BIO-Fungi dataset publishes about 9000 occurrences of fungi (mainly Basidiomycota) from the Basque Country (Spain). The records are accompanied by a voucher specimen.

The vast majority of the specimens come from Spain; however, there are also specimens from neighbouring countries, such as France, Portugal and Morocco. In addition, we have some specimens, although in smaller quantities, from Scandinavian countries and Mexico, due to specific work carried out in those territories (although not available online for the moment).
