Description
La colección fue creada en el periodo de 1980 a 1984 de realización de la Tesis Doctoral de la profesora Pilar Rodriguez, en el laboratorio de Zoología de la Universidad del País Vasco. Contiene en la actualidad alrededor de 2.500 unidades muestrales (especie x localidad x fecha), relativa a aproximadamente 150 especies y 220 localidades. En total, el tamaño estimado de la colección es de 20.000 ejemplares, siendo destacable la presencia de ejemplares tipo, especies endémicas y raras que aportan valor añadido a la colección. La mayor parte de los ejemplares se conservan en tubos con alcohol etílico de 70%, aunque una parte de los individuos de la colección se encuentra montada en portas en bálsamo de Canadá u otro medio de montaje, tras ser diseccionados o preparados en cortes histológicos seriados. La colección se compone principalmente de ejemplares recolectados en aguas superficiales y subterráneas del Norte de la Península Ibérica.
